History of Bingo
Bingo has been around for many years, but no one knows exactly where it originated. The game has several slight differences depending on what country you play it in. It also has other names besides Bingo. In the UK it is called Housey and in New Zealand it is called Housie. The game still requires players to mark or cover up a series of numbers to win. The numbers are drawn randomly.
There are twenty seven numbers on a typical bingo ticket. There are three vertical rows and nine horizontal columns. Every row has five numbers along with four spaces that are empty. When you look at the columns they may contain one, two and maybe even three numbers.
The first column has the numbers one through nine and the second row takes number ten through nineteen. The card continues on until the number ninety. One person that calls out the numbers; they are aptly named the caller. Besides voicing the numbers they also have the responsibility of checking winning score cards.
Prior to the beginning of the game the prize or amount of money that can be won will be announced. To get everyone’s attention the caller will then say something about looking down at the bingo card.
While this is what you will find at a Bingo Hall today there has been an explosion of new bingo players online. Online bingo began about ten years ago. The numbers that are drawn today are computer generated, the bingo tickets have twenty four numbers instead of twenty seven.
